So it turns out there's a fair amount of driving involved in our trip to Mongolia. Around 10,000 miles to be exact. A long way to push our trusty stead.

An estimated 7 days through Europe, 4 days in Turkey,  a short, often trecherous boat trip across the Caspian Sea, through a few 'stans, along the Pamir Highway next to the Afghanistan border, into Russia and then across the Gobi desert to finish up a few weeks later (hopefully) just beyond Mongolia!

A quarter of the teams that enter don’t make it, previous ralliers have been imprisoned for weeks, some have lost limbs, and others much worse.

As the organisers have deftly put it  – its a going to be a piece of cake.

“This is a genuinely dangerous thing to do. You cannot overestimate the risks involved in taking part in this adventure. Your chances of being seriously injured or dying as a result of taking part are high. This is not a glorified holiday. It’s an unsupported adventure and so by its very nature extremely risky. You really are on your own and you really are putting both your health and life at risk.”

The Route

Below is our proposed route, once we've left we'll clear all the balloons and gradually check in as we visit new places and take numerous detours. Chances are our route will be completely different to what we thought.

There's also a more up-to-date map, with other ralliers included here: http://tracking.theadventurists.com/#mongolrally/mongolrally2015
